Peacock is the new premium video streaming service run by NBCUniversal. The Comcast-owned media company launched the service in mid-2020. It’s home to classic and recent shows from NBCUniversal’s various broadcast and cable networks, along with films from Universal Pictures, Dreamworks Animation, and Focus Features.
How does it work?
Peacock works just like other streaming services, although only in the United States. You just log into the platform or open the app on your phone, then select the content you want to watch.
The video files themselves are kept on a remote server and streamed directly to your device. There are no official details as to how much data is consumed while streaming, but based on other platforms you can expect to use around 3GB per hour of streaming in HD.
Where is Peacock available?
Peacock is currently only available in the United States. NBCUniversal has not yet announced any plans to launch the service internationally, but some original content has been licensed by broadcasters in Canada.
How much does a Peacock subscription cost?
There are three tiers to Peacock. A free tier, a premium tier, and an ad-free premium tear.
Peacock Free
This is the ad-supported version of Peacock. It'll have more than 7,500 hours of programming and next-day access to current seasons of new series, movies, daily shows and sports. As the name implies, it doesn't cost anything.
Peacock Premium
This one is still supported by advertising, but you'll also get full seasons of Peacock original shows and other "tent-pole series." You'll get next-day access to returning broadcast series — not just the brand-new ones — late-nite talk shows and sports like the English Premier League. Premium doubles the amount of content to some 15,000 hours.
Comcast and Cox subscribers will get Peacock Premium for free. For everyone else, it'll be $4.99 a month, or $49.99 if you pay annually, saving you about $10.
Peacock Premium — without ads
If you just have to get rid of advertising, there's an ad-free option for an additional $5 a month, or $99 a year annually — a savings of $20.

What do you need to watch Peacock?
A web browser is a good place to start. Peacock supports Chrome, Firefox, MS Edge, and Safari, as well as Android and iOS tablets. Playstation 4 and Xbox One gamers can find Peacock on their respective consoles. Peacock also works with Android TV-enabled smart TVs, including Sony Bravia, and select set-top boxes like NVIDIA Shield.
Apple TV, Chromecast, LG Smart TV, and Vizio TV are all supported, in addition to select cable box sets from Cox and Xfinity. Also, after a long standoff, Peacock is now wavailable on Roku devices.
What devices can I watch Peacock on?
Peacock is currently available on Android, Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, iOS, Xbox One, Vizio SmartCast TVs, and LG Smart TV. It’ll have an app released for the PlayStation 4 during the week of July 20th. There’s also a desktop web player for streaming on Mac, Windows, and Chromebook devices.
Notably missing from that list: Amazon’s Fire TV and Roku, neither of which can access Peacock for now. NBCUniversal has indicated on its Peacock Twitter account that it’s in talks with Amazon, while directing disappointed Roku customers to “squawk” at the set-top box company to add the service.
How do I sign up?
Peacock can be signed up for through the Peacock website or through the various Peacock apps on your service of choice.
